Structural Steel Estimator

Location: Denmark, SC

Job Summary:

The Structural Steel Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates, and developing competitive bids for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural steel construction, blueprints, and industry standards, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

  • Solicit and analyze quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.

  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams to ensure accurate and efficient estimating.

  • Identify potential project risks, constructability challenges, and cost-saving opportunities.

  • Maintain and update pricing databases and cost history records for accurate estimating.

  • Prepare and submit bid proposals in accordance with project deadlines.

  • Communicate with clients, general contractors, and suppliers to clarify project requirements and address any inquiries.

  • Assist in contract negotiation and pre-construction planning as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in structural steel estimating, fabrication, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of structural steel components, fabrication processes, and construction methodologies.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.

  • Experience with estimating software such as Tekla EPM (Fabsuite), Bluebeam, or similar programs.

  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.

  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Knowledge of AISC, AWS, and other industry standards is a plus.
